First seen Nov 11, 2025 · Last updated Apr 25, 2026 · Updated 16 times

Summary

This study collects bone marrow that is normally thrown away during orthopedic surgery. Researchers will use these samples to learn how to better perform gene therapy and gene editing for blood disorders like sickle cell disease and thalassemia. Up to 50 participants of any age with or without these conditions will provide samples. No treatment is given in this study; it is purely for research to improve future therapies.
