Laser light may reveal hidden nerve pain

NCT ID NCT06030297

First seen Apr 23, 2026 · Last updated Jun 16, 2026 · Updated 9 times

Summary

This study tested whether a diode laser can act as a biomarker to measure nerve pain from peripheral neuropathy. 75 adults with or without neuropathy received either a lidocaine or placebo patch in a blinded crossover design. Researchers measured skin responses to laser stimulation to see if they could distinguish real pain relief from placebo. The goal was to develop an objective way to assess neuropathic pain.
