Can a smartphone app help spot who needs End-of-Life care?
NCT ID NCT07574281
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, compares a mobile app called DINKNESH to paper forms for identifying patients who need palliative care. About 1,440 adults with chronic conditions and their health workers will take part. The goal is to see if the app makes it easier to find and assess these patients, and to understand what helps or hinders its use in everyday clinics.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
DINKNESH mobile app
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that a simple app helps health workers find patients who need palliative care more effectively than paper forms, improving care in low-resource settings.
What could go wrong
This is a pragmatic trial in one city, so results may not apply elsewhere. The app's success depends on training and technology access, which could limit its impact.
