Could a simple dietary supplement protect transplant patients from a dangerous side effect?

NCT ID NCT02763033

Summary

This study tested whether a commercially available potato starch supplement could help prevent a serious complication called graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) in patients receiving a stem cell transplant. Researchers gave the supplement to 107 patients starting just before their transplant and continuing for 100 days. They hoped the supplement would change the gut environment to reduce the risk of severe GVHD.
