First seen Apr 19, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 5 times

Summary

This pilot study looked at whether a plant-based diet free of certain harmful compounds (oxysterols) could improve insulin production in African Americans with prediabetes or early type 2 diabetes. Twelve participants followed either a standard diabetes diet or a plant-based version. The goal was to see if removing oxysterols helps the body make more insulin and lowers diabetes risk.
