Beetroot juice tested to fight muscle wasting from bedrest and casts

NCT ID NCT07161973

Summary

This study is testing if a dietary supplement from beetroot juice (a source of nitrate) can help prevent muscle weakness and energy loss when a leg is immobilized. Researchers will have 24 healthy young men wear a knee brace for 14 days, with some receiving the supplement and others a placebo. The goal is to see if the supplement helps maintain muscle strength and cellular energy production during this period of disuse.
