Can a special diet before kidney donation protect your health?

NCT ID NCT05709600

First seen May 01, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This study looks at how different diets—like a fasting-mimicking diet, a ketogenic diet, or a diet low in certain amino acids—change the biology of kidney tissue in living donors. About 80 donors will follow one of these diets for a short time before their scheduled kidney donation. The goal is to understand if these diets can reduce stress on the kidney and improve recovery, but this study is focused on measuring biological changes, not on treating a disease.
