USDA tests if losing weight or eating better matters more for health
NCT ID NCT04293224
Summary
This USDA study aims to understand what improves heart and metabolic health more: losing weight or eating a high-quality diet, even without weight loss. For 8 weeks, 70 adults with obesity or related risk factors will eat provided meals following either standard American or healthier Mediterranean-style patterns, with some groups aiming for weight loss. Researchers will measure changes in weight, body fat, blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, and even mood and thinking skills to see which approach works best.
