First seen Nov 20, 2025 · Last updated Jun 16, 2026 · Updated 24 times

Summary

This study looked at how breathing diesel exhaust affects the nose's smell system and thinking abilities in 40 healthy, non-smoking adults. Participants were exposed to both diesel exhaust and clean air in a random order, and researchers took small nose tissue samples and tested smell and thinking skills. The goal was to find early signs of damage that might help explain how air pollution could raise the risk of dementia.
