Ultrasound of the diaphragm may predict breathing emergencies in seniors

NCT ID NCT07132268

First seen Jan 07, 2026 · Last updated May 08, 2026 · Updated 20 times

Summary

This study looks at whether a simple, non-invasive ultrasound of the diaphragm can help predict which older adults (75+) will develop severe breathing problems after arriving at the emergency room with shortness of breath. Researchers will measure diaphragm movement and thickness in 145 participants and track whether they need breathing support or die from respiratory causes within 7 days. The goal is to see if this quick test can improve early decision-making and care.
