New eye test could replace painful scrape for infection diagnosis

NCT ID NCT04230811

First seen Feb 28, 2026 · Last updated May 02, 2026 · Updated 11 times

Summary

This study aimed to see if a soft membrane pressed onto the eye (corneal impression membrane) is better than the standard scraping method for diagnosing microbial keratitis, a serious eye infection. The membrane is designed to be more comfortable and may detect more germs. The study was withdrawn before enrolling any participants, so no results are available.
