New ultrasound combo may spot deadly vein bleeding risk without a scope
NCT ID NCT07151885
First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 30 times
Summary
This study tests a new, non-invasive way to find high-risk varices (enlarged veins) in the stomach and esophagus of people with liver cirrhosis. Instead of using a scope, doctors will combine a special ultrasound technique with liver stiffness measurements and a simple blood platelet count. The goal is to see if this combination can accurately identify who needs urgent treatment, potentially avoiding uncomfortable and risky endoscopies for many patients.
