NCT ID NCT05166785
First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 33 times
Summary
This study compares a telehealth version of the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) tailored for older adults to the standard in-person program. About 238 seniors aged 65+ with prediabetes will be randomly assigned to either 16 weekly sessions plus monthly support via video or in person. The goal is to see if the online version works as well for weight loss and blood sugar control, potentially making prevention easier for older adults to access.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) tailored for older adults
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that a telehealth version of the diabetes prevention program works as well as in-person classes for older adults, making it easier for seniors to access and stick with the program.
What could go wrong
This is a relatively small study (238 people) comparing two delivery methods, not testing a new drug. The results may not apply to all older adults, and adherence or weight loss could differ between groups.
