Could diabetes change how long you need to fast before surgery?
NCT ID NCT07483593
Summary
This study aims to understand if standard pre-surgery fasting rules work the same for people with diabetes. Researchers will use ultrasound to measure stomach volume in 220 adults with and without diabetes who are scheduled for elective surgery. The goal is to see if diabetes, which can slow stomach emptying, requires different fasting guidelines to prevent a rare but serious breathing complication during anesthesia.
