Spit test could reveal hidden health links

NCT ID NCT07498894

Summary

This study aimed to better understand the links between gum disease, type 2 diabetes, and diabetic kidney disease by measuring specific inflammation markers. Researchers compared 126 people with either newly diagnosed diabetes or diabetes with kidney problems, grouping them by their gum health (healthy, gingivitis, or periodontitis). They collected saliva and blood samples to measure levels of three inflammation-related substances to see if they differed based on a person's gum condition.
