New drug trial aims to protect insulin cells in type 1 diabetes

Summary
This study is testing an oral drug called DFMO to see if it can protect the body's remaining insulin-producing cells in people recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. About 70 participants will take either DFMO or a placebo pill twice daily for six months. Researchers will measure if the drug helps the body continue making its own insulin, which could reduce the amount of injected insulin needed.
