New hydrogel patch could make scrapes heal faster and hurt less

NCT ID NCT07642973

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study will test a special hydrogel patch containing dexpanthenol (a form of vitamin B5) on small, controlled scrapes in 40 healthy adults. Each person will have two identical scrapes on their forearms: one treated with the new patch and the other with a standard plaster. Researchers will compare how quickly the wounds close, pain levels, and scar quality to see if the medicated patch offers any advantage.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

dexpanthenol

What this could lead to

If it works, this could lead to a better, less painful way to heal minor scrapes and cuts at home.

What could go wrong

This is a very early, small trial on healthy volunteers, not real wounds. The patch may not prove better than a standard plaster in everyday use.
