Summary

This study is testing different doses of a sedative drug called dexmedetomidine to see if it can help prevent or reduce confusion and memory problems in older adults after major hip or knee surgery. Researchers will compare the drug's effects against a standard pain medication in 75 elderly patients. The goal is to find the best dose to protect thinking skills during recovery.
