Brain injury breakthrough? common drug tested for swelling control
NCT ID NCT04303065
Summary
This study tested whether the steroid dexamethasone helps adults recover better from traumatic brain injuries with brain bruising and swelling. About 600 patients were randomly assigned to receive either dexamethasone or a placebo pill for 12 days. Researchers measured recovery, brain swelling, and side effects one and six months after the injury to see if the treatment made a difference.
