New study aims to prevent lifelong lung damage in preterm infants

Summary
This study tests two different ways of giving the steroid dexamethasone to very premature babies (born at 24-29 weeks) who need a breathing machine. The goal is to see which method better prevents bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), a serious chronic lung disease, or death. About 970 babies will be enrolled across multiple hospitals, and researchers will also check for side effects and long-term development at 18-24 months.
