Study probes if chronic illness skews depression tests

NCT ID NCT06772896

Summary

This study aimed to understand if standard depression questionnaires work accurately for people with scleroderma, a chronic autoimmune disease. Researchers tested whether asking about physical symptoms like fatigue and sleep problems separately from psychological questions changed how 851 patients reported them. The goal was to see if awareness of a 'depression test' influences answers, to help make mental health screening more reliable for people with chronic illnesses.
