Researchers test new approach to help dementia families accept supportive care
NCT ID NCT05942040
Summary
This study aimed to understand why seriously ill adults, particularly those with dementia, and their family caregivers might refuse community-based palliative care. Researchers developed informational materials to explain the benefits of this supportive care and tested whether these materials could help more eligible patients accept these services. The study involved 301 Medicare Advantage plan members and measured whether the new approach changed refusal rates.
