Can a simple blood test predict Post-Surgery confusion?
NCT ID NCT04875182
Summary
This study aimed to understand if measuring two specific proteins (zonulin and interleukin-8) in the blood could help predict which older patients might develop confusion (delirium) after hip fracture surgery. Researchers enrolled 73 patients over age 65 and took blood samples before and after their operations. They then checked patients for signs of delirium over the next three days to see if the protein levels were linked to its development.
