Cozy vest may soothe kids waking up from anesthesia

NCT ID NCT06966466

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether a special compression vest, which provides gentle pressure like a hug, can reduce confusion and agitation in children ages 3 to 10 after tonsil and adenoid surgery. Half the children will wear the vest in the recovery room, and the other half will receive standard care. Researchers will measure agitation levels and pain to see if the vest helps children wake up more calmly.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

HUGgy compression vest (a wearable device that provides deep touch pressure)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a simple, drug-free way to help children recover more calmly after surgery.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study with only 94 children. The vest may not reduce agitation, or some children may not tolerate wearing it.
