Brain zaps tested to fight veteran alcohol relapse

NCT ID NCT04927364

Summary

This study tested whether a non-invasive brain stimulation treatment called deep TMS could help veterans with alcohol use disorder stay sober longer. Eight veterans received the treatment, which targets specific brain areas involved in addiction, and were monitored for six months to see if it reduced relapse and heavy drinking. The goal was to find a new approach to help veterans maintain recovery when current treatments often aren't enough.
