Could some AML patients ditch chemo pills after a year?
NCT ID NCT06557421
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looks at whether people with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) who have responded well to a year of treatment with venetoclax and azacitidine can safely stop taking these drugs. Researchers will monitor 50 patients closely for signs of relapse and compare them to a similar group that continued treatment. The goal is to see if stopping therapy can maintain remission while reducing medication side effects.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
venetoclax and azacitidine
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that some AML patients can safely stop these drugs after a year of treatment, reducing side effects and medication burden.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase study with only 50 participants. Stopping treatment may lead to relapse, and results may not apply to all AML patients.
