A stitch in time: which flap technique reduces complications in hypospadias surgery?

NCT ID NCT07676916

First seen Jun 30, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This trial compares two microsurgical techniques—single versus double dartos flap—for repairing distal hypospadias in children. Researchers will measure which method leads to fewer complications like fistulas, meatal narrowing, or infections. The study includes 100 boys aged 6 months to 18 years with primary distal hypospadias and a urethral plate larger than 8 mm.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Microsurgical dartos flap procedure

What this could lead to

If one technique proves better, it could reduce complications like fistulas and improve surgical outcomes for children with hypospadias.

What could go wrong

This is a single-center trial with 100 participants, so results may not apply broadly. Both techniques carry standard surgical risks such as infection or scarring.
