Legume power: daily pulses may boost gut and metabolic health
NCT ID NCT07574008
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looks at whether eating 100 grams of fermented or unfermented legumes daily for two weeks can lower blood sugar, reduce inflammation, and improve gut health in healthy adults. Fifty participants will first follow their normal diet, then eat legume-based foods like hummus or legume pasta. Researchers will track blood sugar continuously and measure cholesterol, gut bacteria, and other health markers.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
lactic acid fermented legumes (pulses)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could show that eating fermented legumes daily improves blood sugar control and gut health in healthy people.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial in healthy adults, so results may not apply to people with health conditions. The intervention is short (2 weeks), and benefits may be modest or not last.
