Drug and exercise combo may boost walking in MS
NCT ID NCT06136728
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether taking dalfampridine (a drug that helps some people with MS walk faster) along with physical therapy improves mobility more than either treatment alone. Forty-eight adults with MS will first take the drug for 6 weeks, then stop for 2 weeks, and then be randomly assigned to 6 weeks of physical therapy either with or without the drug. Researchers will measure walking speed and balance to see if the combination works better.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Dalfampridine (Ampyra)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a better way to improve walking and balance in people with multiple sclerosis by combining medication with physical therapy.
What could go wrong
This is a small early-phase trial with only 48 people, so results may not apply to everyone. The medication can cause side effects like dizziness or seizures, and the combination may not prove better than therapy alone.
