New scan aims to predict broken bones in lung disease patients

NCT ID NCT03534934

Summary

This study tested a new type of CT scan to see if it could better predict the risk of broken bones in people with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Researchers compared this new scan method to standard bone density tests in 560 current or former smokers, some with COPD and some without. The goal was to understand how COPD affects bone health and to build a better tool for assessing an individual's fracture risk.
