New study aims to reduce collapsed lung risk during biopsy

NCT ID NCT06340178

First seen Feb 02, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 11 times

Summary

This study tests whether injecting a small amount of fluid into the space around the lung during a CT-guided lung biopsy can lower the risk of a collapsed lung (pneumothorax). Researchers will also position patients so the biopsy targets gravity-dependent areas. About 198 adults needing a lung biopsy will participate. The goal is to find a safer way to perform this common procedure.
