Mysterious fungal infections in healthy people: NIH launches major investigation

NCT ID NCT00001352

Summary

This study aims to understand why some otherwise healthy adults develop serious fungal infections called cryptococcosis, which typically affects people with weakened immune systems. Researchers will enroll 800 participants, including patients with the infection, their relatives, and healthy volunteers, to examine genetic and immune system factors. The goal is to identify what makes certain people susceptible to these infections, which could lead to better treatments in the future.
