Freezing away pancreatic necrosis: a new twist on an old procedure

NCT ID NCT06553651

First seen Jan 06, 2026 · Last updated May 10, 2026 · Updated 21 times

Summary

This study tests a special freezing tool (cryoprobe) to remove dead tissue from the pancreas in people with a serious complication of pancreatitis. The standard method uses tools like forceps, but the dead tissue can be sticky and hard to grab. The cryoprobe freezes the tissue so it sticks to the probe, making removal easier and possibly safer. About 20 adults with large collections of dead tissue will be enrolled to see if this approach works well and has fewer complications.
