Freezing nerves to ease CP pain: new hope for stuck muscles?
NCT ID NCT07321366
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a procedure called cryoneurolysis, which uses cold to temporarily block nerves that cause painful muscle tightness in the shoulder and elbow. It is for people with cerebral palsy who have not found relief from other treatments. The goal is to see if it helps them reach personal goals, like less pain or better movement.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
cryoneurolysis (a procedure that uses cold to temporarily block nerve signals)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a new, less invasive option to reduce pain and muscle tightness in people with cerebral palsy who cannot have surgery or Botox.
What could go wrong
This is a very small pilot study (40 people) with no control group, so results may not be conclusive. The effects are temporary, and there is a risk of side effects like nerve damage or pain from the procedure.
