VA tests new couples therapy to help veterans battle PTSD and drinking

Summary

This study is testing whether adding a brief couples therapy can improve treatment for Veterans who have both post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and alcohol use disorder. Veterans will receive standard individual therapy, and they and their romantic partners will also attend 3-4 couples sessions focused on improving communication and support. The main goal is to see if this combined approach is practical and acceptable, and if it helps reduce PTSD symptoms, drinking, and relationship problems.
