First seen Nov 19, 2025 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 19 times
Summary
This study tested whether giving lidocaine or alfentanil before inserting a bronchoscope (a tube used to examine the lungs) can prevent coughing when numbing medicine is sprayed. Coughing during the procedure can cause problems like low oxygen or heart issues. 108 adults having lung tumor procedures received one of these drugs or a placebo, and their cough severity was measured. The goal was to find a safer, smoother way to perform these exams.
