NCT ID NCT07543081
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether specially designed anti-disinformation messages can correct false beliefs about the FDA's proposed ban on menthol cigarettes and flavored cigars among Black adults. Researchers will enroll 1,000 Black adults in Atlanta and Birmingham, delivering messages individually and through community campaigns. The goal is to improve knowledge about tobacco industry tactics and flavored tobacco policies, and to increase support for such policies.

What this could lead to
If successful, this campaign could help correct harmful disinformation and increase support for flavored tobacco policies in Black communities.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage behavioral study with no direct health outcome; it measures beliefs and intentions, not actual behavior change. Results may not generalize beyond the two cities studied.
