Corn-Filled hope: could this veggie shield your eyes from blindness?

NCT ID NCT02113254

First seen May 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 15, 2026 · Updated 7 times

Summary

This study looked at whether eating corn with high levels of zeaxanthin (a natural pigment) could boost the eye's macular pigment, which may help prevent age-related macular degeneration (AMD), a leading cause of blindness. Nine healthy adults aged 20-35 ate the corn for 10 weeks, and researchers measured changes in their macular pigment density. The study was terminated early, so results are limited, but the idea is that diet might one day protect vision.
