New hope for bone marrow failure: supercharged cord blood cells aim to fix transplant delays
NCT ID NCT03173937
Summary
This study is testing a new method for umbilical cord blood transplants in people with severe aplastic anemia or myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), which are serious bone marrow diseases. Researchers are using specially prepared, expanded cord blood cells to try to help the transplant 'take hold' in the patient's body more quickly and reliably, reducing the risk of the body rejecting the donor cells. The goal is to make this life-saving transplant option safer and more effective for patients who lack a perfectly matched donor.
