Summary

This study compared a new pain education and self-management program (COPES) to standard cognitive behavioral therapy for chronic pain in 764 veterans. The goal was to see if COPES could better reduce how much pain interferes with daily life. Participants had chronic musculoskeletal pain and were receiving care through the Veterans Health Administration.
