Can a simple exercise and education program keep COPD symptoms at bay?

NCT ID NCT07394712

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether a 3-month program of twice-weekly exercise and monthly education sessions can help people with COPD maintain the benefits they gained from an initial 8-week pulmonary rehab program. 86 adults aged 40-75 with moderate to severe COPD will be randomly assigned to either the maintenance program or standard care. Researchers will track symptoms, quality of life, and healthcare use over 12 months.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
structured exercise and educational sessions
What this could lead to
If successful, this program could help people with COPD keep their symptoms and quality of life improvements for longer after completing pulmonary rehab.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 86 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The program requires regular attendance, which may be challenging for some.
