New oxygen therapy tested for COPD emergencies

NCT ID NCT03488628

Summary

This small, completed pilot study compared two ways to give oxygen to people hospitalized with a sudden worsening of their chronic lung disease (COPD). It tested a newer method called High-Flow Nasal Oxygen against the standard treatment, Noninvasive Ventilation, over the first 24 hours of care. The main goal was to see if the newer method was as safe and effective at improving blood oxygen and carbon dioxide levels.
