Chilled dialysis may shield brain from memory loss
NCT ID NCT07377500
First seen Feb 01, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 18 times
Summary
This study tests whether cooling the dialysis fluid slightly (to 0.5°C below body temperature) can help preserve memory and thinking in people with kidney failure who need haemodialysis. Many patients on dialysis experience a decline in brain function, possibly due to drops in blood flow to the brain during treatment. The trial will randomly assign 356 adults to either standard or cooled dialysis and compare their cognitive function after one year.
