New birth control patch shows promise in large trial

Summary
This study tests a new birth control patch that releases a hormone called progestin to prevent pregnancy. About 1,630 healthy women of childbearing age will wear the patch for 13 cycles to see how safe and effective it is. The goal is to provide a convenient, once-weekly option for contraception.
