First seen May 02, 2026 · Last updated May 29, 2026 · Updated 9 times

Summary

This study tests if a standardized, goal-directed breathing technique (using a pressure gauge) finds a small hole in the heart (PFO) better than the usual self-directed method. About 488 people who need a heart ultrasound after a stroke will participate. The goal is to improve detection of PFO, which can be treated to prevent future strokes.
