New Heat-Based treatment for hemorrhoids could be as effective as standard surgery
NCT ID NCT06170736
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares two minimally invasive procedures for grade II/III hemorrhoids: radiofrequency ablation (using heat) and Doppler-guided artery ligation with mucopexy (tying off blood vessels). The goal is to see if the newer heat-based method is as good as the standard one at reducing symptoms like pain, bleeding, and prolapse. About 168 adults who need surgery for their hemorrhoids will take part, and the main outcome is failure rate one year after treatment.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- radiofrequency ablation or Doppler-guided hemorrhoidal artery ligation with mucopexy
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could show that radiofrequency ablation is as effective as the current standard, offering patients a less invasive option with potentially lower recurrence rates.
- What could go wrong
- This is a relatively small trial (168 participants) and recurrence is still possible with both procedures. The results may not apply to all patients or settings.
