Which nerve block works faster for arm surgery?

NCT ID NCT07517809

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study compares two ultrasound-guided nerve block techniques for adults having surgery on the lower arm or hand. The goal is to see which method numbs the arm faster. Fifty participants will receive either a costoclavicular or a lateral-sagittal infraclavicular block using a mix of lidocaine and bupivacaine. The time to full numbness and muscle relaxation will be measured.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
lidocaine and bupivacaine (local anesthetics)
What this could lead to
If one method proves faster, it could reduce waiting time for surgery and improve patient comfort.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 50 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Both blocks are already used in practice, so no major breakthrough is expected.
