Less invasive spine surgery may match traditional fusion for back pain relief

NCT ID NCT07289737

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study compares two types of spine surgery for a condition called degenerative lumbar spondylolisthesis, where a vertebra slips forward and causes pain or nerve problems. One surgery uses a small camera (endoscope) to relieve pressure, while the other involves fusing bones together. Researchers will track 100 patients aged 50-90 to see which approach provides better pain relief and function with fewer complications.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

surgical procedure

What this could lead to

If successful, this could show that a less invasive endoscopic surgery works as well as or better than traditional fusion surgery for relieving pain and improving mobility.

What could go wrong

This is a relatively small study (100 participants) comparing two established procedures, so results may not apply to all patients. Both surgeries carry risks like infection or nerve damage.
