Which skin glue is gentler? new study puts three to the test

NCT ID NCT05492721

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tested three different skin glues (Dermabond, Swiftset, and Liquiband) used to close small incisions after laparoscopic or robotic abdominal surgery. 180 adults each received two different glues on opposite sides of their incisions. The main goal was to see which glue caused less contact dermatitis (redness or rash). The trial is complete, and results will help surgeons choose the gentler option.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

skin glue (2-Octylcyanoacrylate and N-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate)

What this could lead to

If one glue causes less skin irritation, it could become the preferred choice for closing small surgical cuts, reducing discomfort and rash.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed trial focused on a minor side effect (contact dermatitis). The results may not apply to all surgeries or patients.
