Which retainer keeps your smile straight and healthy?
NCT ID NCT07669129
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
After braces come off, teeth can shift back. This study compares two clear retainer designs—full coverage (covers all inner tooth surfaces) and partial coverage (covers only part)—both used with a fixed wire behind the lower front teeth. Researchers will check gum health, comfort, breakages, and how well teeth stay straight over 6 months. The goal is to help orthodontists choose the best retainer for future patients.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Vivera retainer (clear removable retainer)
What this could lead to
If this trial succeeds, orthodontists may have clearer guidance on which retainer design is best for gum health, comfort, and keeping teeth straight after braces.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 42 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Retainers can break or cause gum issues if not cleaned properly.
